Zilvinas Kempinas Updates

Zilvinas is now into the second half of his 6 month residency at Atelier Calder in France and will be opening his studio to the public from May 24th through June 1st, as well as showing a new piece as part of an Alexander Calder exhibition at the castle in nearby Tours.

In the meantime, the artist has work included in two museum shows in France, as well as the just-opened Manif d'Art 4 Biennial in Québec.

'Permutations', at the Musée des Beaux Arts et d'Archéologie in Valence, is a 40 artist survey curated by Dorothée Deyries-Henry that also includes the likes of Luciano Fabro, Fred Sandback, Martin Creed, and Ann Veronica Janssens. The exhibition continues through June 29th.

'+ De Réalité', at the École Régionale des Beaux-Arts, in Nantes, features a total of 60 artists, including Richard Artschwager, Wade Guyton, Richard Tuttle, and a certain Olivier Mosset. The exhibition is organized by the École's awesome sounding 'Groupe de Recherche sur les Abstractions' and continues through June 8th. More info, including PDF catalog download here.

Manif d'Art 4, titled 'Toi/You: The Meeting', opened in Québec City on May 1st and continues through June 15th. The program includes exhibitions and performances spread throughout the city, and Zilvinas' 'Flying Tape' can be found at the main exhibition center, the Espace GM 840.

In June, Zilvinas goes on to set up a solo show of new works spread over two venues in Saint-Nazaire, at the Galerie des Franciscains (an old Franciscan chapel), and le Grand Café contemporary art center. The exhibitions open June 17th, alongside a show surveying the 25 year art collaborations of Sonic Youth.

Lastly, and this is a big one, Zilvinas will be presenting a new version of 'Parallels' as part of the New Works series at San Francisco MoMA. Here using Hi-8 tape, the artist reprises the stunning piece debuted last year in his solo show at the Contemporary Art Center in Vilnius. Exhibition dates are August 1st through October 11th, stay tuned for further updates on this one...
