Jane South talk at Whitney

Jane South will be talking about her work as part of the Whitney Museum's 'Artists On Art' series at the Whitney Museum at Altria, (120 Park Ave at 42nd Street) on Monday February 19th, 6.30pm.

The talk coincides with the Whitney Altria exhibition 'Burgeoning Geometries / Constructed Abstractions', which features work by Jane, alongside Diana Cooper, Tara Donovan, Charles Goldman, Jason Rogenes, and Phoebe Washburn, and continues through March 4th:

"Beginning with simple, reductive forms, the artwork featured in this group exhibition ... draws attention to the minutia of our material environment. Through the artists' meticulous manipulation of widely divergent media, the works become complex networks of abundant, intricately connecting forms that delight in color, line, texture, space, mass, and volume."

Admission to the talk is free, seating on first-come first-served basis, so get their early...

Jeff Gabel, Time Out New York

This week's Time Out New York includes a 4-star review of 'STORYlines: Narrative in Drawing' at Staten Island's Snug Harbor Cultural Center, which includes, of course, a solo presentation of work by Jeff Gabel. Click above to read the piece, or see it online here.

Gabel Opening, SBG - pics

Jeff's opening last week was a kid-friendly blast with assorted sprogs - including those of the artist; curator Frank Verpoorten; and SBG's Mark Orange - all in attendance and scribbling furiously on the floor in honor of the man of the evening. The opening also offered the unusual spectacle of attendees absorbed in the work, see pics below. Jeff Gabel at Spencer Brownstone Gallery continues through February 25th, more info here.
